Doc was a true local champion for the heath of the Arkansas River. He oft times stood alone, against seemingly overwhelming odds, fighting for what he knew was the right thing to do. He gained the respect of individuals and entities on both sides of the Superfund cleanup issue, who knew him either as a steadfast partner, or a tenacious and indomitable adversary. You could hear the room hush when Doc got up to speak. He may have been small of stature, but he was huge of heart, and his unwavering commitment to his ranch and the health of the valley as a whole is a model for responsible land stewardship.
